painted this soldier earlier this year. rarely do i paint without a clear idea of what the finished work will look like. this is one such example. early on i planned to include a dramatic backdrop, but as the foreground character developed the painting began to take-on the appearance of Pulp Art - such as a Pulp Magazine or Pulp Book cover

started out as a head on a pike. after deciding an alien would be the final figure, i added the long thin neck and body, including amputated arm and alien-style eyes. having him (?) working on a painting came to me later, during production of the form. just this morning i did the painting of robot-Maria from Metropolis by Fritz Lang. what else would an alien paint ?

UGH ... i've been inundated with Beatles crap lately, and you probably have been, too. last night there were two commercials, identical, back-to-back, for Guitar Hero with the Beatles. for some reason the Abbey Road album cover flashed in my mind and i quickly sketched the Tubbies in that setting

yesterday, after painting Laa-Laa, i noticed a pattern. originally the order i was painting the teletubbies in was height/age. but Laa-Laa's background was the color of Po - Red. the background of Laa-Laa was Purple, meaning i had to choose whether to continue following the original order, or painting Tinky-Winke next, as Tink is Purple. the background would have to be green to accommodate the painting of Dipsy next ...
