the wooden case is 6x8''
from humble beginnings as a porcelain doll's head and an unadorned pine box ( four sided, not six ), collected on a thrift store scrounging run, sprang this Magician / Fortune Teller, inspired by the ''Fortune Teller in a cabinet'' of my hazy childhood memories at Ed's Warehouse in Toronto, and the nearly identical Esmeraldas ( Esmeralda 1 & Esmeralda 2, i.e. Brunette and Blonde ) from House on the Rock
side show barker-quality graphics ( updated images will likely be posted. eventually ) have been added but not yet photographed - UPDATE : finally the photos have been taken and posted ... see farther down in this gallery
special thanks to Associate Professor Susan Sherwin, Theatre & Dance Dept., UWSP, for her helpful insights into wardrobe manufacture

this is an idea that's been kicking around for a while now ... how embarrassed can i make
those who know me, in a very public place ?
45 minutes into my new Alien bust ... as soon as it's finished i'm going to turn this sucker over to Darryl Sims, world-renown "alien hunter". he'll find that bastard !
so they think they can probeulate and run, huh ? ... and not call the next day ? well it's
not gonna happen !
now for the hardest part : waiting for the epoxy to cure ... i made a few Dragon jewelry
items yesterday and Dona suggested making a pen topper ( wonder who'll make-off with that )
still needs to be painted, etc ...
finished version of above ... done in ''natural'' colors, rather than the more over-the-top
colors dragons are usually portrayed in
still experimenting with the medium and having fun with different settings for these
little creatures
still experimenting, color materials arrived yesterday
still experimenting and playing with the new color materials

after seeing a friend's new ( recently purchased ) house yesterday, and the fact that it was being gutted today, i knew it would require an extraordinary house-warming painting
11x14'' acrylic and oil on stretched canvas
today i painted this three times - the first time (when i saw the ''unfinished'' bottom it was obvious that feature would remain throughout) in a fairly strict adherence to the artist's tastes and style, the next in my own typical soft-blended fashion and then in a hybrid of the two styles

Dona tells the story of going to a new place to get her hair done. the woman gave her big hair and Dona very carefully made her way back home to wash and re-style it. she was afraid of being hit by a car and, being new to the area, having people mistakenly think that was the way she always made up her hair causing her to be buried for all eternity with the outrageous do of a Country Western performer
much to my chagrin she took no photos of the hairdo

innocent Chickens living out their life sentence behind bars in a corporate prison, sometimes called a ''farm'' down south. their only crime is being so mouth-wateringly delicious
5.5x8.75'' oil on reclaimed fabric covered book
this book cover has been a thorn in my side for a long time ... today, finally, i saw it as it could be rather than as it was

a work in progress ...
for a few paintings now i've stumbled around trying to regain my color sensibilities in oil painting. each winter the solvents get set aside and i have to find something to occupy the time ( without resorting to chronic masturbation ) and my touch grows rusty, but today i saw a photo in a Flickr friends image stream which pushed all the right buttons
recently i got a copy of the Vinland Saga ( never having allocated the time to read any of the Icelandic Sagas, now seemed as good a time as any ) and always a fan of Norsemen ( not having lived on the island coasts of Brittany during the Viking raids helps ) i've painted a few during my days in the sleepy Nordic Village of Stoughton. but this image struck me enough to inspire some really great flesh tones - as if i'd not set brush aside for several months. now you understand the title
