Nan the Chick

Nan the Chick (https://www.facebook.com/NanChicken) passed very recently.  the death was sudden and complicated by a few bouts of illness.  Nan's caretakers did everything they could, but Nan passed quietly in 'Mother's arms'

Nan was a special bird who had a bad start but a wonderful life otherwise.  my N-REP PAD 2014 project was interrupted, and Nan graced the canvas i'd been using.  that canvas seemed the perfect backdrop for Nan, but i don't know what will happen to this as yet unposted project.  at the very least i will need a new canvas

as with portraits of other loved ones (pets, anyway) i have added a halo indicating death has visited

this afternoon i decided to paint the portraiture i'd intended to paint during Nan's lifetime.  90 minutes later this was the result.  Rest In Peace, Nan.  you were truly loved - by thousands of people

Newton

Last Saturday we rushed Newton to the University Veterinarian School, two hours away ... for once he wasn't dying.  He only cost us an entire day off, just under two hundred bucks and a bit of worry.  oh yeah -- we also had to navigate downtown traffic just after the University game let out.  mayhem.  pure mayhem

yesterday, in honor of once again having survived yet another medical scare ( requiring no extensive stay or drugs ), i wanted to paint another portrait of him.  we showed it to him this morning and he freaked out, flying all over his avian palace.  we assumed that indicated a good likeness of a parrotlette

getting a good likeness of him is difficult, as he removes most of his perpetually bad chest feathers.  i like to think that he has proclained himself a body modification artist
see a good portrait of him here

finally he has his own TV show ( he has no idea, of course )  tune in here

Link hates Asteroids

this idea has been rolling around in the back of my mind for quite some time ... Legend of Zelda's own Link demolishing an upright video game cabinet in some sort of a ''Video Game Dungeon'' -- kind of a Mini-Boss, but the reward is not going to be an extra play, that's for sure !

Link and Makar

for some time i've wanted to put a sign above the garage door.  something like the old taverns had, way back when.  eventually Zelda came to mind as a possible subject, and after studying the artwork IN the games (on the ranch, outside cafes, etc) decided to use a playful image of Link with Makar, one of the cutest characters from Wind Waker

painted yesterday, weatherproofed today and installed

Brock Freakin' Samson

has it been over a month ?  so much has been happening, i've only now caught up.  a bit caught up, anyway

Brock, as all of you know, is a one-half Swedish, one-half Polish, and one-half Winnebago murder machine - and that does not mean he blows up when he is in a collision.  a fixture from The Venture Bros. TV show, he serves as Dr. Venture's bodyguard

i'll shell out for a Dr. Girlfriend action figure, but not for Brock, apparently.  finally saw a doll at Goodwill that had a shaved head, and ordered some yellow epoxy ... painting the skin tones was a disaster - tried oil paints, which never dried, but rather smeared.  mixed some enamel paints to approximate the skin tone and got satisfactory results

Ken doll (GI Joe) with crew cut, sculpted epoxy, oil and enamel paints - ha !  you can still see a bit of fluff on his nose !
